I went to a law firm to discuss possibly filing for bankruptcy protection and to settle my mother’s estate. After that meeting I was introduced to Angela M. Thomas, a paralegal with extensive experience assisting homeowners fighting foreclosure. Angela reviewed my finances and my circumstances; and she suggested that I consider requesting a Deed in Lieu and not file for bankruptcy. She explained to me that since my only debt was my student loan and the condo was in my mother’s name and my mom had just passed away, and that I was not legally responsible for my mother’s mortgage. I wanted to move out of my mom’s condo, but I believed because my mom willed the condo to me that I was now responsible for the mortgage and unfortunately my mom owed more than the place was currently worth. I had never heard of a Deed in Lieu and Angela was so very patient with me. She explained the different options to me, and she convinced me that Bankruptcy was not the right option for me given my circumstances.
Angela was amazing, not only did she negotiate with the lender to take back the condo, but she also was able to secure $3,000.00 in relocation funds for me, to help me relocate to an apartment that was much closer to my job, significantly reducing my commute costs. Angela helped me locate a wonderful apartment in Princeton, much closer to my job and to Rutgers where I am pursuing my PHD.
I was so surprised that the attorneys that I had hired to help me settle my mother’s estate recommended Bankruptcy however this paralegal, recommended by a neighbor, took her time and paid attention to all the details of my circumstances and she was able to educate me on the available options for me to consider, while she also explained why Bankruptcy was not the best option for me. Angela took the time to explain every option to me and then she helped me find a new home and she was instrumental in securing relocation funds for me, that I never expected. I was delighted with her support and with her attention to details. She did not rest until my mother’s estate was completely settled and I was happily moved into my new apartment. I didn’t think there were any more people left in the world who cared as much as Angela did during the settling of my mom’s estate. Angela even spoke with several of my relatives and she answered their estate questions, at no additional charge. I was blessed to have this angel enter my life.
